In 2020 and 2021, Mercy was once again able to purchase items through the generous donation received on an annual basis from the Marjorie Barclay Trust.
Funds from 2020 and 2021 were put towards a Transperineal Biopsy System which provides improvements in diagnostic imaging (MRI) capability for prostate cancer and detect possible other cancers in parts of the prostrate that are not able to be reached with Trans Rectal Biopsy.
Prior to purchase, Urology patients who required this type of enhanced imaging and biopsy to travel to Christchurch for the procedure as it was not offered in Dunedin. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes under either general anaesthetic or sedation, the patient is able to go home straight afterwards. The purchase of this machine has removed the requirement of our local private and public patients to travel North whilst also enhancing diagnostic capability and surgical timing, as required.
Resuscitation Solutions
The Little Anne CPR manikins will enable Mercy's trainers to focus on more than one person at a time. Through real-time CPR feedback you can check how every learning is performing with feedback on depth, release, rate and ventilations. An excellent asset to support Mercy's updated education programme.
